Iiro Näkki is a choreographer interested especially in interconnections between spatiality, specific forms of movement culture, their discourses, and the embodiments these connections could produce and be produced by. He works with site-specificity and with staged pieces, oftentimes also overlapping the two. His performances are often revolving around creating or occupying specific spaces to encompass the emergence of physicality and movement of bodies.

His choreographic works include:

provide (2017), in which the subject was to research the creation of space as a condition preceding choreographic work. The creation process of the studio space was thoroughly documented, filmed and recorded, resulting in an installation/live performance populated by questions of relations between time, spatiality, and identity.

Clos (2015), which was a contemporary dance piece loosely based on the text of Jean-Paul Sartre's 'Huis clos', revolving around the dialogue and performative acts of a trio sealed inside a single room for an eternity. The stage of the piece was a clear-edged area covered with soil, spreading its scent to the whole space, increasingly sticking to the sweating performers and finding its ways inside their bodies as the piece went on.
